
Festival Provides Grant Life Line to Local Charities
Following a highly successful Ringwood Festival in July, which incorporated the now famous Pedal Car Grand Prix, Ringwood Town Council were able to distribute cheques totalling £9,877 to locally based charities.
Deputy Town Mayor, Councillor Brian Terry, presented cheques for £2,696.50 each to U-Nite Club (for the benefit of people with special needs) and Ringwood Carers’ Group (offering support to carers in the community).
Alan Wilkinson, Chairman of U-Nite, thanked everyone for their generosity and advised Council that the grant would go a long way towards meeting their costs for the next three years.
Ringwood Carers’ Group, represented by Les Yeoman and Roger Gregory, stated they were very grateful for the much needed boost to their funds.
In conjunction with Jim Stride, organiser of the Pedal Car Grand Prix, a further cheque for £2,108 was presented to Wave 105 Cash for Kids, their representative, Gloria Hill, stated this grant would provide the ability to offer additional local services.
Estelle Wilson and Jan Fuller, receiving a cheque for £2,108 on behalf of Tenovus Cancer Charity, also thanked the Council for their generosity which would assist cancer research locally.
Further, a grant of £269 had also been agreed for help the Heroes and that would be despatched to that organisation following the Council meeting.
Councillor Brian Terry stated that he was very pleased that the Festival had been such a success and it was possible to provide significant grants to local charities.
